Only lasting 2 years on the air Thundarr the Barbarian had 21 episodes that lasted a half hour each. Thundarr was created by Joe Ruby and directed by Charles A. Nicholas, John Kimball and Ruby Larriva.
Thundarr the Barbarian was produced by the Ruby-Sears Productions Company and could usually be seen played on NBC as a Saturday morning cartoon. The idea of Thundarr is somewhat inspired by Conan the Barbarian.
The title seems like it would be set in the past but the cartoon is actually set in the future where the World has been set to waste. The world is separated to what they call Kingdoms which are watched by Wizards.
Thundarr is a powerful warrior who travels the world along with his friends Princess Ariel and Ookla the Mok. They do battle with wizards, werewolves, human like lizards and strange race called Moks.
The characters in Thundarr somewhat resemble early Hanna-Barbera characters from that time period. The show takes some references to Star Wars as Thundarrs weapon somewhat looks likes a light saber.
