In Japan, 1990, an anime series called Kyatto Ninden Teyandee was produced by Tatsunoko Productions; this was introduced a year later to western audiences by Saban Entertainment under the name Samurai Pizza Cats.

The show takes place in the futuristic yet traditional town of Little Tokyo (Edoropolis) inhabited by a variety of anthropomorphic beings. Since the insanity of the former ruler, Emperor Fred, the town is now ruled by his daughter, Princess Vi, and a council. However, one council member, by the name of Seymour “Big” Cheese, desires to take control.

Big cheese’s plans become discovered by Al Dente, commander of the Palace guard, but because of inadequate proof to expose the council member, he’s chooses to hire three, young feline warriors to prevent the Big Cheese from ever succeeding: the Samurai Pizza Cats.

There were 54 episodes originally produced in Japan. All but 2 were translated into English, as the remaining episodes were merely clip shows and did little to help expand the plot.
