Pound Puppies

In the 1980s a company called Tonka began producing a toy line called Pound Puppies, soon the toys could be found in many department stores across North America. The Pound Puppies toys were a massive hit and soon inspired a TV series about them.

Soon enough Pound Puppies the animated series was born along with a full length film. Lovable. Huggable and Loveable Puppies That Need a Home were some catch phrases used to describe and sell the toys and series back in the late 1980s.

The series ran from 1986 to 1988 and was first aired on ABC and I have seen it still aired on retro cartoon channels such as Boomerang. The show is mostly about a group of puppies that are looking for a good home.

During an episode of the Pound Puppies they usually end up finding a good home. Some of the Puppies names are Cooler, Nose Marie, Bright Eyes and Howler. When the second season came around they made many characters. Characters backgrounds and story lines were changed around to fit the new season.

Tri-Star Pictures also released a movie sometime in 1988. The movie was called Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw.
