Created by Greg Weisman Gargoyles was first aired on October of 1994 and was influenced heavily by medieval times. The show was also targeted towards an older audience as the story line was made more complex compared to other cartoons of its time.

The show featured a group of Gargoyles led by Goliath who lived in medieval times however they were cursed by a wizard by turning to stone and staying as such until their castle rose above the clouds. Present day a billionaire purchases the castle and has it set above his own skyscraper and now the Gargoyles come back alive after thousands of years.

The show only lasted 3 seasons when it sadly ended in 1996 however you can still catch it on Disney’s Late Night specials and in DVD format though purchases. Some interesting facts is that Star Trek actor Jonathan Frakes and many other from the Trek franchise lent their voices to the show. Also the Gargoyles can be found in Comic Books still to this day.

In the early 90′s Rick Ungar came up with the idea for a new cartoon and in 1993 Biker Mice from Mars started playing in the United States. The cartoon completed three full seasonbs before it was calcined in 1996.

The series ran for 30 minutes and had a number of 65 episodes in total and was well received in its time. The show starred three mice named Throttle, Modo and Vinnie.

They came from Mars obviously and drove motorcycles battling evil like your typical cartoon. When their plant was in danger of being wiped out by an alien race they escaped and crash-landed in Chicago where they meet a friend who happens to be a mechanic.

Not a very well known cartoon by many but a cartoon of the 70′s none the less. The Jackson Five’s own animated series called The Jackson 5ive ran from 1971 till 1973 which explains why I have never seen this.

The show was obviously based around the Jackson Five and was somewhat based around their lives of the day, recording music, playing for fans, etc. The show was actually back on the air during 1984 – 1985 as a Saturday Morning cartoon.

The Jackson 5ive had two seasons and a total of 23 episodes and was broadcasted mainly in the United States. The original members of the group were unable to help with the show due to scheduling and their own career however their music was used in the show.

Running from 1988 to 1993 Count Duckula had a total of four seasons with 65 episodes. Cosgrove Hall a British animation studio created the show which was mainly a spin-off from another famous animated series Danger Mouse.

Having lasted for so many years and the number of episodes it has a large following on the internet. The show is of course based around Count Dracula and is in Transylvania. Duckula lives in a large castle with his butler and nanny.

You can actually purchase Count Duckula on DVD by visiting either eBay, Amazon or maybe even your local video store.

Another classic non-forgotten animated series of the early 80′s Dr Snuggles! The show ran from 1979 to 1980 and featured only 13 episodes which lasted 25 minutes each. Dr Snuggles was an inventor who along his way had very strange adventures with freinds in a psychedelic world.

His friends were mainly talking animals who helped him along the way. Spending most of his time inventing things such as robots, fire-proof lotion and many other strange inventions. He travels on a talking pogo-stick and a ship called Boom Boom actually Dreamy Boom Boom. I had to dig deep to find this one as it was on TV mostly in the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany.

The show was created by Jeffrey O’Kelly and stared John Challis who played parts in Doctor Who and Coronation Street.

Many of us remember the toys that were introduced for the show but how many of actually watched it? Well I can remember watching the show but what came to mind was being at the flee market and seeing the toys. Street Sharks lasted about two seasons which is much more then most cartoons of the day.

The show resembled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in many ways, one of course featuring four heroes who became sharks and fight evil. DIC Entertainment produced the show which lasted from 1994 to 1995 containing around 40 episodes.

One note that stood out was their favorite food being hamburgers and fries, thus their hated food would of course be Pizza which was a line against the Ninja Turtles. Overall a typical cartoon created for the Mattel toy line based on the show.

Challenge of the GoBots (also known as Mighty Machine Men) is an American animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, based on the Gobots toy-line released from Tonka. Most of the toys were imported from the Japanese Machine Robo toy line .

The GoBots originally debuted in animated form as a five-part miniseries, which aired in syndication from October 29 – November 2, 1984. A regular series followed the next year, premiering on September 16, 1985. The series was later rerun on the USA Cartoon Express.

GoBots dealt with two opposing forces of transforming robots from the planet Gobotron: the heroic Guardians and the evil Renegades. The Guardians were led by Leader-1 with others including Turbo and Scooter. The Renegades were led by Cy-Kill, with Crasher and Cop-Tur among their ranks. The characters rarely had guns, instead shooting energy blasts out of their fists. Unlike Transformers, GoBots had regular female characters. However, the females were built like the males (only Crasher receiving any distinguishable female features). The GoBots’ origin as organic beings accounted for the presence of genders among the robots.

The series generally focused on the “lead” three robots from each faction (Leader-1, Turbo and Scooter vs. Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur and Crasher), who were virtually ever-present, with other characters seeming to rotate in “guest-star” roles.

GoBots had no clear divide between the two factions. The characters (as well as the toys) had no identifying insignias or markings to indicate their allegiance, although it was clearly indicated on the packaging. Likewise, there was no commonality of design within each faction.

The only ‘theme’ to a side was that anything that turned into a ‘monstrous’ looking robot or vehicle was a Renegade.

Clips from the show were used in Errol Morris’ Fast, Cheap and Out of Control.

Another classic Saturday morning cartoon by Hanna-Barbera called The Herculoids. The show first came on the air in 1967 on CBS and had a total of 18 episodes. The show eventually ended its run in 1969 however 11 new episodes were created for the Space Stars show in 1981.

The Herculoids was much like Johnny Quest and Space Ghost as it had more or less the same content and story direction. The series contained eight major characters with three of them being Humanoids and the other five being The Herculoids.

The Herculoids have been seen in other shows such as Space Ghost where it was first introduced. In modern days The Herculoids have been mentioned in Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, The Venture Bros and even Family Guy.
