On March 5, 1989, the Disney Channel aired the premiere episode of Chip’n’Dale, Rescue Rangers. This series is about two chipmunks (Chip and Dale)who have a talent for getting themselves into sticky situations.
Along with their friends Gadget, the robust monterey Jack, and the adorable fly, Zipper, these characters all formed the Rescue Rangers detective agency. The series touts two arch nemises, Fat Cat and Norton Nimnul, the mad scientist.
Every episode finds this unusual group of heroes involved in solving a mystery. In true Disney fashion, the case is always solved and the world as they know it returned to peace by the end of the episode. The series ran until 1990, although it continued to air as part of the afternoon programming on the Disney Channel for about three more years.
In January of ’07, the lovable chipmunks returned (in the form of reruns), and began airing weekdays at noon on Toon Disney. Contrary to popular rumor at the time it first aired, Chip’n’Dale (and the crew) were not “spin-offs” of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
